The ISSC is now accepting applications for annual grants to those that support seafarer welfare and nominees for our Peter G. Bernard Volunteer Award as well as our Sue Hanby Bursary.

About Us

For over 100 years, the International Sailors Society Canada has been supporting seafarer centres across Canada. Each year the ISSC distributes up to $50,000 in grants.

The 2024 International Day of the Seafarer Peak Challenge was a sell-out once again with over 130 participants in our Challenge held on June 25, 2024. Was great to see so many industry supporters at the top of Grouse Mountain.

apply for a grant

Each year we distribute approximately $50,000 in grants to those that support seafarer welfare in Canada. Applications will be accepted until May 31, 2023


While volunteers are a large part of every seafarer centre's success, each year we recognize an outstanding and deserving individual with our Peter G. Bernard Volunteer Award.

Apply for a bursary

The Board of Directors set aside an amount each year to support a hard-working students that are on the path to a career at sea. Students studying in a marine-related program at a Canadian educational institute can apply.

The International Sailors Society of Canada was honoured to have HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, as the Society’s Royal Patron up until he died in 2021.
