This year, the ISSC is pleased to have the opportunity to award two Peter G. Bernard Volunteer Awards.
John Attersley
From the Mission to Seafarers, Halifax, John Attersley is a ship welfare visitor who has been an active member of our volunteer family for over 8 years. As a ship-visiting volunteer, John has mentored many seafarers and actively participated in our shoebox delivery program. John is our “go-to” for extra shifts, particularly during evening hours and usually on very short notice. Having travelled extensively as a seafarer, John is familiar with missions worldwide. John is a valued member of our volunteer family. While he would never admit it – John’s enthusiasm and proactive attitude make a BIG difference to many. John epitomizes everything volunteerism stands for.
Don MacInnes
From the Mission to Seafarers, Vancouver, Don MacInnes is a long-time supporter and advisor to the Mission’s Annual Cycling for Seafarers event in Vancouver. As the “driving force” behind it all, Don MacInnes and the planning committee have done an excellent job in changing circumstances and have laid a good foundation for the success of this annual event. Each year, they have achieved and exceeded their targets for their fundraising goals. The Mission to Seafarers continues to support seafarers who visit the Port of Vancouver. Ensuring the health and welfare of seafarers should be recognized as one of Canada’s social sustainability goals. Seafarers need to be recognized for their contribution to our economy and lifestyle. Don has been a major supporter in Vancouver.
